McCandless, Arendt Win Frank Shorter Race4Kids’ Health 5K

Pristine race conditions set the stage for the 6th Annual Frank Shorter RACE4Kids’ Health 5K & Health Odyssey Expo Sunday morning at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, CO.  Over 600 participants came out and took part in one of the many activities taking place:  the new Mazzola’s Miracle Mile Relay, the Diaper Dash and Buzz, and of course, the flat and fast 5K course around the 1STBANK Center.

Dobson, McDonagh Win DreamCatcher Half Marathon

The 2nd Annual DreamCatcher Half Marathon featured an exciting finish between Grand Junction's Kim Dobson and Colorado Springs' Neil McDonagh.  Yes, you heard that correctly; new mother Dobson returned to the racing scene Saturday morning for the local race that runs along the Colorado River and consists of wide paved bike paths (60%), unpaved bike paths (10%), gravel trails (10%) and country roads (20%).  Needless to say, the relatively flat course boded well for Dobson, who out-sprinted McDonagh for the overall win in 1:25:46.  McDonagh finished seconds later in 1:25:48.

Sturner, Rogers Win Quicker Quaker

The 19th Annual Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival kicked off Saturday morning, featuring an oatmeal breakfast, 5K race and health fair sponsored by Boulder Community Hospital/Community Medical Center.  The race course was short, not reaching the 5K distance, but rather a 4.275K distance.  As such, the results listed below are based on the 4.275K finish times.

Christensen, Utrata Win Santa Stampede 10K; Kearns, Utrata Win 5K

Over 1,300 runners and walkers took part in the 10th Annual Santa Stampede 5K and 10K Saturday morning at Hudson Gardens in Littleton, CO.  The event is the first of three in the Winter Distance Series, hosted by Colorado Runner.  Each race runs along the Platte River trail, with the majority on flat and fast sidewalk.  This year's conditions saw a relatively clear course, with some ice and snow patches along the way.  Additionally, runners competing in the 10K were vying for the Colorado State 10K Championship, hosted by the Road Runners Club of America.

Robinson, Jamrogiewicz Win Thornton Winterfest 5K

The inaugural Winterfest 5K, part of Thornton's annual Winterfest celebration, kicked off Saturday morning under cloudy skies and chilly temperatures.  Runners and walkers were treated to a course that circumvented the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center twice, and featured a couple of decent hills and a gravel/trail section in the last mile.  After the race, participants took part in a post-race party that featured warm coffee, a smorgasbord of food, awards and a plethora of raffle prizes.

McCandless, Johansen Win Mile High United Way Turkey Trot

Cool temperatures and sunny skies greeted the 8,000+ participants of the 41st Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot on Thursday morning.  Held at Washington Park in Denver, runners and walkers took on a 4 mile course around the park that provided a flat and fast course for all.  There was also a quarter mile Family Fun Run for kids and families.  What's more, the start and finish villages set the perfect scene for pre-Thanksgiving festivities for participants of all ages.

Petersen, Folts Win Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon; Wacker, Arendt Win USATF Colorado State Half Marathon Championships

As far as he knew, twenty-six-year-old Andy Wacker was fully prepared for this morning’s Janus Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon. He was sure the race started at 8a.m. and arrived an hour early to stretch. But as he made his way to the start line, he noticed other runners rushing by in a big hurry. Very quickly, panic set in.  He wasn’t an hour early. He was seriously late, arriving with just a minute to spare before the gun went off.
