Western State Men Win NCAA Division II National XC Title

Ryan Haebe won in a time of 30:45.1 and Tyler Pennel finished three seconds behind him as Western State College men's cross country won its eighth NCAA Division II national championship and ninth overall with a team score of 27 points at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex. The Mountaineer women finished second with Lauren Kleppin in third overall.

Batliner, Jeff Victorious at Fit For Fire 5K

The Weather Gods were smiling down on Washington Park last Sunday, as the 2nd annual Fit for Fire 5K was held in pristine Fall temperatures with a cool breeze and no lack of sunshine. The event drew around 500 participants, almost doubling their numbers from last year while benefiting Denver Firefighters.

Record Year At ADT Marathon

The 2011 American Discovery Trail Marathon and Half Marathon saw a huge increase in numbers for the 11th annual Labor Day tradition. The point to point downhill marathon runs along the smooth dirt surface of the Santa Fe Trail from Palmer Lake (elevation 7,225') to America The Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs (elevation 6,020'). This year, a record 420 people finished.

Gall, Kremer Win Barr Trail Mountain Race

Former Manitou Springs resident Scott Gall won the Barr Trail Mountain Race on Saturday, July 16th. The 37-year-old took the lead at the 2-mile mark and held off Manitou Springs' Daryn Parker (1:40:24), running 1:39:02. John Tribia of Boulder finished third in 1:41:48.

Small and Schneider Win Steamboat Springs Marathon

Gabriel Small and Amy Schneider should be pleased. Both runners improved upon last year’s performance at the scenic Steamboat Springs Marathon and were rewarded with a win in the male and female divisions of Sunday’s 30th running of the race.
