Jamie Donaldson: Slow and Steady Wins the (Ultra) Race

Littleton’s Jamie Donaldson has set numerous course records (for both male and female divisions) and can boast of accomplishments at the United States’ major ultra-marathons including Badwater, Leadville, Lost 118, and Rocky Racoon (see below for more). Issue 47 (May/June 2011)

I recently ran the Publix Georgia Marathon in Atlanta. In my decade-long quest to run a marathon in every state, Georgia marked number 37 for me. It was also my first marathon after a two year hiatus. I ran quite slowly compared to my finishing times from a few years ago (3:48), but I’m hoping to quickly get back in shape this spring. Why? So that I can run a Boston Marathon Qualifier for 2012, of course.

Ryan Hafer: Record-holder Learns to Keep the Joy in Running and in Life

Ryan Hafer has experienced his share of injuries, often due to overtraining. Months before last year’s Bolder Boulder a lower leg injury kept him from running for 12 weeks. Hafer found Dr. Jeff Mathews who “wouldn’t give up” on treating it, and Hafer made a slow comeback to the starting line at the 2010 Bolder Boulder. By the time he hit the finish line, he completed a months-long physical, mental and spiritual breakthrough.

Kim Dobson: Starting Out Strong and Stepping It Up

A relatively unknown runner at the time, Kim Dobson burst onto the running scene in 2009 with a sub-3 hour marathon in Fort Collins and a shockingly fast first-time Ascent on Pikes Peak. The 26-year-old is a second grade teacher, passionate outdoors-woman, wife of a medical student, and a rising star in the Colorado running scene.
