Brie Oakley’s decision to give up soccer for running is sound. Not that the Grandview junior needed any more confirmation after she finished second in the state in cross country, but it came when she opened the Class 5A state track meet with a bang.

Air Academy’s Katie Rainsberger Closes Out High School Career With 10th State Title

It is an hour before Katie Rainsberger will run her final race for Air Academy High School, the 1,600 meters at the Colorado state high school meet on an unseasonably hot Saturday afternoon. One of Colorado’s greatest-ever high school runners is lying in the shade under a team canopy, zoning out to focus her famous intensity, mostly silent, listening to upbeat tunes on her earbuds.

Colorado trail running is tough to beat, and that's what brought Amanda Basham to the Centennial State late last year. The 26-year-old finished second at April's Gorge Waterfalls 100k in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge, and thereby earned a "Golden Ticket" automatic entry to the famed Western States 100 in June.

Brianne Nelson Wins the Horsetooth Half Marathon

History was made Sunday morning, and it had nothing to do with the massive amount of snow that fell across Colorado.  Golden's Brianne Nelson won the Horsetooth Half Marathon outright in 1:16:44, just four seconds ahead of first place male and second place overall finisher Stephen Pretak.
