Culpepper, Kastor dominate at USA Cross Country Championships

Olympians Alan Culpepper (Lafayette, Colo.) and Deena Kastor (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) returned to the USA Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2003, winning in style today at the USA Cross Country Championships presented by Gleukos. Culpepper was timed in 37:09 for the men's 12 km course and Kastor cruised to victory in 26:47 for the women's 8 km.

Marc Witkes, a member of the Colorado Runner magazine staff, died suddenly in the last mile of the Tucson Marathon on Sunday, December 10. He was 40 years old.

I will be the first to admit that I take my running for granted. I had been injured for the better part of a year, but slowly I have started to get back into shape. I live for my running. It’s my way to get out into the nature that I love so much. It is also a way for me to relieve the tension and stress that might have built up during the work day.

Runners Enjoy Inaugural Teva Paint Mines 6K Run/Walk

The inaugural Teva Paint Mines 6K Run and Walk on Thursday, July 27 was enjoyed by 100 participants ranging in age from 10 to 74. The venue in Calhan, Colorado, the Paint Mines Interpretive Park, was official dedicated in 2005 and was the perfect site for a run.

Gutierrez and Cospolich Victorious at the 28th Teva Vail Hill Climb

More than 300 runners challenged themselves to an unrelenting 7.5-mile climb to the summit of Vail Mountain today. Sea-level competitors as well as altitude-adjusted locals gathered at Vail's Mountain Haus on a cloudless morning for the 8:00 start. Vail Recreation District Director Mike Ortiz gave the runners pre-race announcements and then turned the stage over to Matt Drummet, Marketing and Sales Director for the Vail Mountain Haus who shot the starter's pistol.

The hot summer heat often blankets itself over Colorado this time of year. Yet this is a time when many of us will be squeezing in our long marathon and half marathon training runs. I always try to run during the first rays of dawn or long after the sun sets, because it’s cooler. But sometimes you just have to run or race in the heat, so remember to watch for signs of dehydration.

Nguran, Baranova Win Salt Lake City Marathon

Under a clear blue sky and a backdrop of shining snow-capped mountains, a world-class international field led a record number of runners Saturday at the third annual Salt Lake City Marathon. The inaugural Salt Lake City Marathon Half Marathon got off to a blistering start, with Utah resident Dennis Simonaitis setting the course record at 1 hour, 10 minutes, 41 seconds.
