2007 Denver Marathon Builds Strength and Inspiration in Second Year

The 2007 world-class Denver Marathon will ring in its second year with unprecedented sports momentum and almost double the number of race registrants as last year for the annual race that will occur in the Mile High City on Sunday, October 14, 2007. Approximately 10,000 participants are planning to participate over race weekend, which includes a marathon, a half-marathon, ING marathon relay and the McDonald(1)s Mile Kids Race. The McDonald(1)s Mile Kids Race, which has doubled in size since last year, will now be held on Saturday, October 13. The race day will draw runners from around the world and more than 1,200 volunteers will join together again to help make the event a success over the course of race weekend.

Boulder’s Laura Bennett Grabs First U.S. Triathlon Team Olympic Spot

US Teams Victorious at Fourth Annual NACAC Mountain Running Championships

The Canadian Trail and Mountain Running Association (CTMRA) in association with the Canmore Challenge Trail hosted the fourth North American Central American Caribbean (NACAC) Mountain Running Championship in Canmore, Alberta, on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Teams from the United States, Canada, and Mexico competed over the 12 kilometer route with the U.S. teams winning the championships in both the male and female divisions.

Alan Webb Breaks Steve Scott’s American Record In The Mile

Three-time U.S. 1,500m champion Alan Webb (file photo) on Saturday broke the American record in the mile, clocking 3:46.91 at the Atletiek Vlaanderenmeet in Brasschaa, Belgium. The mark breaks the record of 3:47.69 set by National Track & Field Hall of Famer Steve Scott in 1982 and makes Webb the eighth-fastest man in history, behind Hicham El Guerrouj, Noah Ngeny, Noureddine Morceli, Steve Cram, Daniel Komen, Venuste Niyongabo and Said Aouita.

Lakewood’s Patty Rogers Wins Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon

Fernando Cabada cruised to an impressive win in his Napa-to-Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon debut, setting a course record of 1 hour, 4 minutes, 57 seconds, and defeating two-time defending champion and former course record holder Celedonia "Cele" Rodriquez of Alamosa, CO. Patty Rogers of Lakewood, CO earned the women's crown in 1:22:38. Each winner was awarded with a double magnum of Merlot from Sebastiani Vineyards, a Ball Watch and $500 in cash.

Abundant Sunshine on Vail Mountain Greets Runners at the Teva First Bank of Vail 10 at 10

Many competitors at this year's Teva First Bank of Vail 10 at 10 (10Km at 10,000 feet) trail race remarked about the warm temperatures and bright sunshine at the summit of Vail Mountain where the race was held. "I was surprised how warm it was for the 9:00 start. At 10,000 feet you often think of cool and crisp conditions," said J'ne Day Lucore of Denver who finished second in the 40-49 age group.
