First Race in Vail Trail Running Series Kicked Off in Minturn

The 2020 Vail Recreation District's (VRD) Vail Trail Running Series kicked off with the Dynafit Summer Solstice 10K and 5K, presented by Town of Minturn on Saturday morning, June 20. The route took place on Meadow Mountain in Minturn, Colorado. It was an exciting return to racing for many trail enthusiasts in the mountain town.

Waterton Canyon Reopens to Runners, But Only On Weekdays

Starting June 15, the public will once again be able to recreate at Waterton Canyon in Littleton, but only on weekdays. The popular hiking, biking and horseback riding destination has been closed to the public since March 18 over concerns of COVID-19. When it reopens, the canyon will follow normal operating hours on weekdays, opening a half hour before sunrise and closing a half hour after sunset, Denver Water said. Waterton Canyon will remain closed on weekends until further notice.

Bike Lane Law Takes Effect on July 1, 2020

Senate Bill 20-061, also known as the bike lane bill, is now law in Colorado and takes effect on July 1, 2020. The law requires motorists to yield the right-of-way (ROW) to a bicyclist in a bike lane. It also creates a new traffic offense for failing to yield to a bicyclist or other authorized user in a bicycle lane.

First race of Lory Trail Series a success

The Lory Trail Series kicked off on Tuesday night at Lory State Park in Fort Collins with the Eltuck Valley 5K. Produced by Gnar Runners, this series offers a fun, low-key series of races designed to give newer trail runners an opportunity to dip their toes into the trail racing waters, and to offer more experienced trail racers a chance to sharpen their speed on shorter, quicker courses.

Colorado Public Health Gives Guidance on a Return to In-Person Running Events

The Colorado Department of Public Health just released new guidance for outdoor activities, which now allows endurance sports, such as running races, cycling events, and triathlons. The new guidance reads, "Competitive events such as races and endurance events are allowed as long as social distancing and limitations on group size can be maintained. This includes implementing staggered start times and making efforts to prevent gatherings at starts and finishes, so that no more than 10 people are gathered at a time."

More than 600 Runners Finish Bryce Canyon Ultra Races

Vacation Races held the Bryce Canyon Ultra Races in Hatch, Utah on May 30 and 31, 2020. In total, 653 runners competed in five total distances - a 30K, 50K, 50 Mile, 60K and 100 Mile races. The 30K was the most popular distance with 226 finishers. The 50K had 109 complete the distance. The 50 Mile race had 131 finishers while the 60K had 83. There were 104 finishers in the 100 Mile.

A Return to Racing in Colorado; Run the Ranch first Colorado Race in 11 Weeks

It has been 11 weeks since 3W Races hosted the Erin Go Braugh 7.77K in Westminster. That was the last in-person race to take place before governments banned events throughout Colorado. Many runners in Colorado have been wondering when athletes would be allowed to get back to in-person racing. Well, it happened this weekend. Sweetheart City Racing hosted the Run the Ranch Trail Races at the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch outside of Loveland.

Pikes Peak Ascent Cancelled; Marathon Still Scheduled

This year, due to circumstances driven by COVID-19, the Pikes Peak Marathon board of directors has canceled the Pikes Peak Ascent and plans to seek approval at the state level to hold the Pikes Peak Marathon according to modifications required to meet state public health guidelines.
