Wacker, Wetzel victorious at Dynafit 10K at 10,000 feet

The annual 10K and 5K at 10,000 feet in Vail was a 10K at 8,000 feet instead this year, but it still attracted more than 150 participants. Organized by the Vail Recreation District, a staggered start format was used this year in an effort to keep people from being in the same area at the same time, but the prolonged start waves also prevented organizers from utilizing the gondola to access the traditional start/finish area atop Vail Mountain. While runners still took to Vail Mountain for the annual event, this year they ran from Vail to Lionshead before finishing in Golden Peak.

Kipchirchir, Kibet take USATF Colorado 10K championship at Classic 10K

Spread out over two days, the Classic 10K in Colorado Springs offered real life, head to head racing with elites battling it out for the USATF Colorado 10K championship. Starting on Saturday morning with the Brewers' Cup race, the event saw nearly 300 runners over both days take to the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail for an out and back event from North Monument Valley Park.

Crag Crest Trail Race in Grand Junction a success

Crag Crest Trail was a popular place, much higher and cooler than the Grand Valley with its 100 degree temps, but none had as much fun as the 33 runners who ran the full loop. There were a few crashes per usual, one temporarily lost and a few down tree obstacles but nothing dampened the enjoyment for long.

Silverheels 100 and Last Call 50 Miler are first Colorado Ultra races back

The Grand-Daddy of all the Human Potential Running Series Races, The Silverheels 100-Mile Endurance Run is second only to Hardrock in average elevation. Starting and finishing in Fairplay, the race has a total elevation gain of over 17,000' across the 104 mile distance. The accompanying Last Call 50 Mile went off at midnight, exactly 16 hours after the 100 milers started. The 50 miler also spends the majority of it's time above 10,000' feet, gaining and losing over 9,000' along the way.

Coburn Breaks Colorado Mile Record

Olympic-bronze medalist Emma Coburn broke the Colorado mile record Saturday night. The former CU alum clocked a 4:32.7 mile at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, which is the fastest mile ever run by a female on Colorado soil. The previous record was held by fellow Dani Jones of 4:36 set in 2018.
