Run for the Ring 5K

August 2 @ 7:00 AM

he Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation hosts the 11th Annual Run for the Ring 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run, bringing together the type 1 diabetes community and supporters for a morning of fun, movement, and impact. The event will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, starting and finishing at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC). Race entry for the 5K Run/Walk, Virtual 5K Run/Walk, and the Kids Fun Run and Fun Zone is open, with an early bird discount running through June 27, 2025. Regular registration runs from June 28 to July 29, 2025, and “day-of” registration goes from July 30 to race day, August 2, 2025.

Over the past 11 years, the Run for the Ring 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run has brought together BDC patients, loyal type 1 supporters, and running enthusiasts to run for the brass ring–the cure for type 1 diabetes. All proceeds from the Run for the Ring will support the efforts and programs of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of BDC patients living with type 1 diabetes and their families through education, support, advocacy, and research.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on race day at the BDC on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus at 1775 Aurora Court, Aurora, Colorado 80045. Run for the Ring features three different races. Runners, walkers, and strollers can participate in the professionally-timed 5K around the Anschutz Medical Campus. Runners of all levels and ages are welcome. Kids ages 2-10 can also join in the Kids Fun Run, zooming around the Kids Zone while parents and loved ones cheer, high-five, and spray them with squirt guns. Before the Fun Run, kids are free to play in bounce houses, a human hamster ball, slides, mazes, and other fun outdoor activities also featured in the Kids Zone. New this year is a Virtual 5K option. If you’re unable to come to the event, run in your neighborhood, a local park, or your favorite trail anytime the week leading up to race day. Then tag the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (@cdfdiabetes) in your social posts with #RunForTheRing2025 so you can show your support.

Registration for the 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run includes breakfast bites, a timing chip (5K only), a race bib, and a Run for the Ring performance t-shirt. Those with type 1 diabetes will also have the option of receiving a special “I’m the 1” t-shirt, and all participants can decorate a black bib that says “Running for my 1” to honor their type 1 loved one. Participants must register by July 12, 2025 to guarantee a shirt. The awards ceremony will recognize top individual runners, including a special new category for type 1 runners, as well as teams and fundraisers.

Run for the Ring is fun for the whole family and invites participants to make a difference for people with type 1 diabetes. Registrants can create a race team and fundraising page to enjoy race day with more family, friends, and co-workers while raising awareness and supporting type 1 heroes through fundraising. Teams are encouraged to make up fun team names, decorate t-shirts, or wear costumes on race day to broadcast their commitment to finding a cure. Those who want to contribute but aren’t into running can sign up with Sleep-In Registration to donate to the cause without participating. Sleep-In Registration includes a Run for the Ring performance t-shirt that will be mailed to the registrant.

This year’s event Co-Chairs are Angie Anderson and Diona Gouker. The Fun Run is sponsored by Tandem Diabetes Care, with Silver Sponsors Abbott and Dexcom. Media partners are 5280 Magazine, CBS Colorado, Colorado Expression, and KBCO.

The “brass ring” symbolizes the overarching goal of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Barbara Davis Center: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The Guild is CDF’s auxiliary volunteer group with more than 250 dedicated members. Since its inception, it has contributed over $2 million to the BDC.
