An Interview With Melody Fairchild

Melody Fairchild is arguably the best American high school female distance runner of all time. She was born September 10, 1973 in Boulder and began running in the city’s foothills at age nine. Melody won eight Colorado track and cross country state championship titles for Boulder High School and still holds the state records for cross country (16:45.1 in 1989), 1,600 meters (4:49.86 in 1991), and 3,200 meters (10:34.09 in 1990).

An Interview With Lorraine Moller

Lorraine Moller is a native of New Zealand who competed internationally for 28 years highlighted by an Olympic Bronze Medal in the marathon at Barcelona in 1992. She won the Boston Marathon in 1984. She also is a three-time champion of both the Avon Women’s World Marathon Championship and Osaka International Ladies Marathon. At the Commonwealth Games Lorraine won bronze medals in 1982 at Brisbane at both 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters and a silver medal in 1986 at Edinburgh in the marathon. She is the only woman to compete in the first four Olympic marathons.

Q&A with Steve Jones

Steve Jones was born August 4, 1955 and raised in Ebbw Vale, Wales. He began running cross-country as a 15-year old in 1970 and later became in aircraft technician in the Royal Air Force. Beginning as a steeplechaser for the RAF team, Jones progressed to the 5,000 meter and then the 10,000 meter track events. He experienced significant early success as a competitive runner, eventually winning the Welsh Cross Country Championships nine times.

Running Legends: Interview with Lorraine Moller

Lorraine Moller began her career running barefoot on the natural grass tracks of her native New Zealand in the 1960s. She went on to become a Bronze Medalist in the Women's Marathon at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Lorraine concluded her running career with her fourth Olympic marathon in 1996, becoming the only woman in the world to have completed each of the first four Olympic marathons for women. Moller’s many other running accomplishments include three victories in the Avon International Women’s Marathon, three wins in the Osaka [Japan] International Ladies’ Marathon, and a 1984 Boston Marathon title.
