Coburn Breaks Colorado Mile Record

Olympic-bronze medalist Emma Coburn broke the Colorado mile record Saturday night. The former CU alum clocked a 4:32.7 mile at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, which is the fastest mile ever run by a female on Colorado soil. The previous record was held by fellow Dani Jones of 4:36 set in 2018.

First Race in Vail Trail Running Series Kicked Off in Minturn

The 2020 Vail Recreation District's (VRD) Vail Trail Running Series kicked off with the Dynafit Summer Solstice 10K and 5K, presented by Town of Minturn on Saturday morning, June 20. The route took place on Meadow Mountain in Minturn, Colorado. It was an exciting return to racing for many trail enthusiasts in the mountain town.

Waterton Canyon Reopens to Runners, But Only On Weekdays

Starting June 15, the public will once again be able to recreate at Waterton Canyon in Littleton, but only on weekdays. The popular hiking, biking and horseback riding destination has been closed to the public since March 18 over concerns of COVID-19. When it reopens, the canyon will follow normal operating hours on weekdays, opening a half hour before sunrise and closing a half hour after sunset, Denver Water said. Waterton Canyon will remain closed on weekends until further notice.

Colorado Public Health Gives Guidance on a Return to In-Person Running Events

The Colorado Department of Public Health just released new guidance for outdoor activities, which now allows endurance sports, such as running races, cycling events, and triathlons. The new guidance reads, "Competitive events such as races and endurance events are allowed as long as social distancing and limitations on group size can be maintained. This includes implementing staggered start times and making efforts to prevent gatherings at starts and finishes, so that no more than 10 people are gathered at a time."

More than 600 Runners Finish Bryce Canyon Ultra Races

Vacation Races held the Bryce Canyon Ultra Races in Hatch, Utah on May 30 and 31, 2020. In total, 653 runners competed in five total distances - a 30K, 50K, 50 Mile, 60K and 100 Mile races. The 30K was the most popular distance with 226 finishers. The 50K had 109 complete the distance. The 50 Mile race had 131 finishers while the 60K had 83. There were 104 finishers in the 100 Mile.

IRONMAN Announces Safe Return to Racing Event Guidelines

IRONMAN announced its Safe Return to Racing event guidelines, a series of comprehensive operating principles prepared in accordance with industry standards for open air mass participation sporting events. Based on standards from the World Health Organization (WHO) and developed with guidance from the IRONMAN Global Medical Advisory Board (IGMAB).

Pikes Peak Ascent Cancelled; Marathon Still Scheduled

This year, due to circumstances driven by COVID-19, the Pikes Peak Marathon board of directors has canceled the Pikes Peak Ascent and plans to seek approval at the state level to hold the Pikes Peak Marathon according to modifications required to meet state public health guidelines.

Rocky Mountain National Park Reopens

Rocky Mountain National Park, the most popular National Park in Colorado, has reopened. Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) will reopen with limited services, per guidance from the White House, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and state and local health officials, park officials said. The park closed to all visitors on March 20. All visitor centers, as well as the Wild Basin area, will remain closed during this phase.
