New Parker Incline and Trails Open Thanksgiving Day

The new Parker incline and surrounding new trails open to the public on Thanksgiving Day. The Rueter-Hess Recreation Authority (RHRA) announced that its new Incline Challenge and surrounding trails in Parker will open to the public at sunrise on Thanksgiving Day. After that, they will stay open from sunrise to sunset seven days a week.

Six more state parks now charging people to enter on foot or bike

Six more state parks are now charging visitors who enter on foot or bicycle. Entry for visitors without motor vehicles at the parks will now cost $4. Daily vehicle passes cost $11. Colorado Parks and Wildlife instituted the walk-in and ride-in fee at 16 state parks last year, including Barr Lake in the Front Range. It doubled that number this month including Castlewood Canyon, Golden Gate Canyon, Roxborough, Staunton and St. Vrain in the Front Range.

Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon Has 353 Finishers

The 2020 Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon, presented by the Littleton Adventist Hospital Centura Health, in Highlands Ranch had 353 finishers on Saturday, November 7. Unseasonably warm weather was a plus for the runners. Greg Morrin, 29, of Boulder topped the field of runners in 1:22:43. Boulder's Trevor Turner was second and Jack Chambers of Highlands Ranch finished third overall. The women's race was won by Bryn McKillop of Denver, 24, in 1:35:52. Littleton's Anissa Swaney was second and Megan Wenham of Lone Tree finished in third.

Fishers Peak is a Newly Open Colorado State Park

Fishers Peak State Park, the 42nd state park in Colorado, is now open near Trinidad in Las Animas County. The 19,200-acre property was purchased in February 2019 through a collaboration between Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), the City of Trinidad, The Nature Conservancy, the Trust for Public Land and Great Outdoors Colorado.

Cold and Snow Doesn’t Stop Some Denver Area Runners and Walkers

The cold temperatures and falling snow didn't stop 234 runners and walkers from competing in the rescheduled Donut Dash 5K on Sunday, October 25, 2020. The winter storm came in on Sunday morning. The race went on, after already being rescheduled once from April because of COVID. Josef Gertner of Fort Morgan took the top spot in 16:39 while Denver's Kelly Naumann was the top female in 19:38. The runners took off in waves spread over four hours to meet COVID regulations, with start times from 8am until 11am.

Bike theft in Denver is up 23%

From January through September, bike theft in Denver is up 23% compared to the same period a year earlier, Jay Casillas, public information officer for the Denver Police Department, told CBS MoneyWatch.
