Koch and Wieck Take Red Hot 55K, Krar and Rentz Take 33K

Grand Junction's Kevin Koch and Greenwood Village's Sonja Wieck took home the top honors in the Moab's Red Hot 55K on Saturday, February 18th. The challenging ultra race took 200 finishers from the Gemini Bridges trail head to Poison Spider trail head over Moab's famous red rock formations. With outstanding vistas of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse Point State Park and the La Sal Mountain Range, it is one of the most beautiful courses in all of Utah.

Williams, Utrata Win Valentine’s Day 5K

More than 500 runners and race-walkers braved the cold Sunday morning for the Valentine's Day 5k at Wash Park in Denver.  Temperatures hovered around a brisk 25 degrees, and while there were some snow and ice patches on the course, that didn't stop some of Colorado's fast locals from coming out and posting some impressive times.

Race Review: Yeti Chase 5K and 10K

Runners enjoyed a fairly fast 5k and a rolling 10k at Saturday's Yeti Chase, run on the scenic west side of metro Denver in Bear Creek Lake Park.

Interview With Coloado School Of Mines Coach Art Siemers

Art Siemers is the Head Coach of cross country and track & field as Division 2 Colorado School of Mines.  Coach Siemers has coached numerous National Champions and All Americans during his tenure, as well as consistent top 5 finishes for his men’s cross country team at NCAA D2 Nationals.  He is also an outstanding runner, with great range (4:01 mile and 2:18 marathon).

Race Recap: Nally, Keyser Win Rock Canyon Half Marathon

Pueblo's Rock Canyon Half Marathon got off to a slick start on Saturday. The ice and snow hardly hindered Denver's Daniel Nally and Fort Collins' Ellie Keyser who won the men's and women's divisions of the race, which capped registration at 750 entrants.

Western State Men Win NCAA Division II National XC Title

Ryan Haebe won in a time of 30:45.1 and Tyler Pennel finished three seconds behind him as Western State College men's cross country won its eighth NCAA Division II national championship and ninth overall with a team score of 27 points at the Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex. The Mountaineer women finished second with Lauren Kleppin in third overall.

Issue 50 (November/December 2011)

A few months ago I participated in my first off-road triathlon in Moab, Utah. At the awards presentation some guy hobbled in as if he’d been shot in the back. If you’ve been to enough races, you’ve seen this scene played out. The announcer stops to acknowledge the courageous effort of the poor sap who crosses a finish line that has since been torn down. A few politely clap, some cheer. Others scratch their heads wondering who That Guy is, and quite frankly, why, and what happened? Never did I anticipate That Guy would be me. But on this day, he was.
