For our final cycle through the freshman and sophomore future stars for the cross country season, Kayla Broecker of Summit High School is our next future star.
Though she is only a freshman, she is racing with a lot of poise and experience of a veteran. So far this season, Broecker has placed well in all of her races including an 11th place finish in the Sweepstakes division at Liberty Bell, running 17:31. She then went out of state and raced at the very competitive Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, where she finished 8th overall. Finally, her best result came this past weekend, running an impressive time of 16:59 at the Warrior Lincoln Park Classic and finished 2nd.
Her time of 16:59 places her at #2 for all freshman in Colorado, #3 for all freshman in the whole country, and #6 overall in the whole state of Colorado. She is also among the few who have broken 17 minutes in the 5k this season, and she is only a freshman! There is definitely a lot more in store for Broecker, and we cannot wait to see where her running takes her.
