For this editions of rising star, we will focus on sophomore, Lucas Santos of Valor Christian High School, who has the fastest 5k for all sophomores in Colorado. Santos ran 15:35 at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede a couple of weeks ago, placing an impressive 7th overall in the championship division. His time was a massive PR, running almost 15 seconds faster than his time that he ran at the Nike Southwest Regional meet from last season.
Considering that race is at sea level, on a flat course and at the end of the season, Santos’ time of 15:35 to the start the season is absolutely incredible! It also shows some very exciting times to come for this 10th grader.
Finally, Santos ran over 90 seconds faster from what he ran last year on the same course at the same meet. He did place 40th overall at the state meet last year, where he ran 16:20 for the race, so it is definitely safe to say Santos is looking to place well at the state meet, even just as a sophomore.
