Records fall at Greenland Trail Race

The 21st annual Greenland Trail Race took place on May 3rd at Greenland Open Space in Larkspur. Offering a 4 mile, 8 mile, 25K and 50K ultramarathon, the race is one of Colorado’s premier trail races.

Under a cloudless sky, two course records were broken, again proving that the Greenland Trail Race is one of Colorado’s fastest trail races.

In the 50K, Jonathan Aziz of Colorado Springs broke the 11-year-old course record of Alex Nichols by four minutes, crossing the line in 3:09:38. For reference, that is 6:07 per mile on the undulating course with nearly 2,500′ of elevation gain.

The other course record that was broken was in the 4 mile race. That record had stood since the 2020 race and was held by Jarrett Eller in 25:59. This year, Jake Littlehales of Broomfield crushed the barrier, running 23:52. The 4 mile route is actually 4.2 miles and has 250′ of elevation gain.

What makes these times even more impressive is that a small section of the trail had to be re-routed in 2021, adding about 100 meters to the loop.

Overall, the race saw just under 700 total finishers.
