Jefferson County to Expand the Trailhead at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park

75

Jefferson County is hoping to expand the Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. Alderfer/Three Sisters Park is one of the most popular parks in the JCOS system. Parking is notoriously challenging at the two main trailheads (East and West). The primary goals of this project are safer, more organized parking, as well as an improved visitor experience. Part of the proposed solution is to double parking capacity at both trailheads and upgrading the amenities such as restrooms, wayfinding, and shelters.

Jeffco Open Space (JCOS) will host a virtual community meeting, on Wednesday, April 14 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. regarding improved visitor experience, proposed trailhead expansion at both of Alderfer/Three Sisters Park’s East and West Trailheads, and increased safety for park visitors.

In response to record visitation, they have developed a parking management plan that includes on-street parallel parking on the south side of Buffalo Park Road with improved crosswalks. Overflow parking will be available at Wilmot Elementary School, as well as the addition of clear roadway signage directing visitors to parking opportunities at the West Trailhead.

The public is encouraged to join JCOS staff at the upcoming virtual meeting to learn more about the current action items. The virtual community meeting will include a presentation and question/answer session. The link to the public meeting can be found at https://www.jeffco.us/980/Alderfer-Three-Sisters-Park. A public comment period will follow the virtual community meeting and will remain open from April 14 – May 14. All comments can be sent to [email protected] for review and public record.
