SUMMARY:West Elk Trail Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The West Elk Challenge is a point-to-point trail marathon (with a 30K option) through Western Colorado’s North Fork Valley and West Elk Mountains at peak fall colors. But it’s also something bigger: 100% of proceeds fund scholarships for Nature Connection’s summer camps. \nThis race is built around a simple idea: courage grows through challenge — especially when it’s supported. \nWhen you choose to challenge yourself to run\, hike or walk across the West Elk Mountains\, you’re building your own strength\, wellness\, and courage. Outdoor experiences have the power to do that — especially for kids. \nYour participation helps ensure more kids can attend summer camp\, where they build confidence\, curiosity\, outdoor skills\, and a true sense of belonging. \nThe marathon starts on the shores of Crawford Reservoir State Park and will travel on gravel roads through the farms and ranches at the base of the iconic Needle Rock\, where they will meet the 30K participants. Soon thereafter\, the trail enters the Gunnison National Forest and climbs singletrack trails through golden aspen stands on the slopes of Mt. Lamborn. After about 5 miles of climbing\, runners top the 9\,762 foot summit of Inter-Ocean Pass\, and descend through spruce\, aspen and oak\, past Lone Cabin Reservoir to the town of Paonia\, finally ending at Paonia Town Park. Unlike many “trail marathons\,” which are actually on gravel 4×4 roads\, over half of this race is on singletrack trails!

SUMMARY:Taco Bell 50K
DESCRIPTION:It has been described as Urban Legend. More mysterious and barking spiders than the Barkley Marathons. The International Taco Bell 50k boasts a higher DNF rate than the famed Leadville 100 Trail Race. As the tale is told\, the race began with a hot tub\, a stoic Russian\, a short king from New York\, and Susie. The race has been held annually in Denver\, Colorado in early October\, which coincidentally coincides with International Taco Day. It is a good idea to engage in gastric training. If you complete the challenge\, you will be deemed a SURVIVOR\, revered and heckled for life! \n(This is an untimed event…) \n\n \n\nRace Rules\n\nBe present at all 10 Taco Bell stops along the courses. Zero tolerance for course cutting.\nEat a menu item from at least 9 of the 10 Taco Bell stops.\nBy the 4th stop\, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Chalupa Supreme or one Crunchwrap Supreme (dietary restrictions will be allowed within reason).\nBy the 8th stop\, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Burrito Supreme or one Nachos Bell Grande (dietary restrictions will be allowed within reason).\nFinish under 11 hours.\nDrinks do not count as food.\nEntrants must keep all receipts and wrappers for confirmation of stupidity at the end of the run.\nAn off-course bathroom break will be allowed at Wash Park.\nSURVIVORS will eventually get a commemorative item after successful completion of the run.\nIf you intend to participate\, RSVP your statement of intent. ONCE YOU RSVP\, YOU ARE IN. THIS IS LIKE THE GOBLET OF FIRE.\nNo on-course Pepto\, Alka Seltzer\, Pepcid A/C\, Mylanta will be allowed!\nAdditional “rules” may be added\, amended\, or changed to promote the intent of this run\, which is to do something completely stupid.\nCongratulations?\n\n* Diablo Challenge – lather all items with Diablo sauce and do a Diablo shooter at the end. \n** Baja Blast Challenge – drink an aggregate of 2 Liters of Baja Blast during the run without vomiting. \nThis event is not sponsored by or endorsed by Taco Bell Corp.\, so be cool.

SUMMARY:PPRR Nielson Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Race Format\nThe first time you run this event\, you’ll establish a base time for yourself. This base time is used to generate a handicap time. The handicap time is calculated using an algorithm developed by Bob Royse\, and it’s geared to favor a beginning runner and the slower runners. Click here for an explanation of the handicap algorithm. \nOnce you have an established handicap\, you are racing against your handicap time. The person who improves the most from their handicap time is the winner. Each month the results are sent off to Bob Royse and he fires up his Nielson algorithm and regenerates all of the handicap times based on the latest result data. \nAs mentioned before\, the handicap does favor a beginning runner or a slower runner who is putting in a lot of quality training time\, as it’s these types of runners who tend to have significant time improvements running the same course. But the race is also good for established runners and the swift of feet because it gives those runners a good indication of their fitness level. It’s the same 2 mile course each month. Thus given similar weather conditions\, you have a very good basis to check out your running fitness from month to month. \nAwards\nAt each monthly race\, the person who improves the most over their handicap earns a Nielson shirt. \nThe shirts are generously donated by Michael Schenk of EON Studios\, located at 836 N Institute in Colorado Springs (633-7986). Visit EON Studios for all of your screen printing needs. \n\n\nEntry Fees\nNone. Yes\, there is a free lunch. Your dad was wrong ;) \n\n\nCourse Information\nThe course is a flat 2-mile course in North Monument Valley Park. The first mile is an elongated loop\, first heading north on the middle trail and then south on the main trail parallel to the creek. The second mile is an out-and-back\, heading south on the main trail and then back north again.

SUMMARY:Outlast Denver
DESCRIPTION:OUTLAST is a 6-hour trail endurance challenge where runners complete a 5K every hour\, on the hour. Each lap must be finished within the hour to stay in the event. If you finish early\, you rest until the next round. Miss a lap\, and you’re out. \nComplete all six rounds\, and you OUTLAST. \nThis isn’t just about speed — it’s about pacing\, discipline\, and mental grit. Whether you’re trying to survive all six or win your division\, the challenge is the same: show up each hour\, push your limits\, and stay in it. \nEach course is trail-based\, with natural terrain\, elevation\, and unpredictable conditions. You’ll have time between rounds to recover\, refuel\, and refocus — but not much.
