SUMMARY:PPRR Nielson Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Race Format\nThe first time you run this event\, you’ll establish a base time for yourself. This base time is used to generate a handicap time. The handicap time is calculated using an algorithm developed by Bob Royse\, and it’s geared to favor a beginning runner and the slower runners. Click here for an explanation of the handicap algorithm. \nOnce you have an established handicap\, you are racing against your handicap time. The person who improves the most from their handicap time is the winner. Each month the results are sent off to Bob Royse and he fires up his Nielson algorithm and regenerates all of the handicap times based on the latest result data. \nAs mentioned before\, the handicap does favor a beginning runner or a slower runner who is putting in a lot of quality training time\, as it’s these types of runners who tend to have significant time improvements running the same course. But the race is also good for established runners and the swift of feet because it gives those runners a good indication of their fitness level. It’s the same 2 mile course each month. Thus given similar weather conditions\, you have a very good basis to check out your running fitness from month to month. \nAwards\nAt each monthly race\, the person who improves the most over their handicap earns a Nielson shirt. \nThe shirts are generously donated by Michael Schenk of EON Studios\, located at 836 N Institute in Colorado Springs (633-7986). Visit EON Studios for all of your screen printing needs. \n\n\nEntry Fees\nNone. Yes\, there is a free lunch. Your dad was wrong ;) \n\n\nCourse Information\nThe course is a flat 2-mile course in North Monument Valley Park. The first mile is an elongated loop\, first heading north on the middle trail and then south on the main trail parallel to the creek. The second mile is an out-and-back\, heading south on the main trail and then back north again.

On November 15 of last year\, I suffered a Burst fracture to my C6 vertebrae. After emergency surgery I woke up a quadriplegic. After months of rehabilitation and hard work\, by the grace of God I was able to get the use of my legs back 100%. I decided I wanted to start running again and my wife encouraged me to start a 5K. \nGod gave me a second chance. I hope I can inspire others to get better and never stop fighting. Everybody has their own struggles and their own scars. Life isn’t perfect\, but it sure is beautiful. \nCome run with me\, my family\, and friends! \nTogether we can make a difference :)

SUMMARY:Creede Mountain Run
DESCRIPTION:The Race Is On! The Creede Mountain Run\, established in 1987\, celebrates the end of summer and the beginning of fall in our small historic mountain town. This event offers participants the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking San Juan Mountains in Colorado on a 2\, 12\, 22 mile\, or 50K course! \nThe race begins within the town of Creede\, leading racers along Main Street early in the morning\, as sleepy stores open and coffee shop patrons step onto the street to cheer racers on. The course follows Willow Creek out of town and up towards the Black Pitch\, testing their endurance for quick altitude gain while piquing their interest with old mines hanging precariously from vertical cliffs. The 12-milers round out the Bachelor Loop\, while the 22-milers climb up to the top of the Continental Divide\, before making their return into Creede and the finish line. The 50k race branches off for a gorgeous stretch of single track at the head of Miners Creek\, then down the mountain to return to town.

SUMMARY:Cirque Series 14K
DESCRIPTION:The race begins at 10\,780′ ft\, starting at the base of Arapahoe Basin\, Mountain Goat Plaza\, head up to the High Noon parking lot\, then to last chance.  You will cross highway 6\, get on the A-Basin summer road.  You will follow the summer road up to Black Mountain Lodge.  From Black Mountain Lodge you can see the views of the East Wall – some of the coolest terrain at Arapahoe Basin\, of which a brand new singletrack hiking trail will be part of the uphill course. You will then connect back to service road continue to the saddle\, crossing over to the top of Montezuma Lift\, head out the Lenawee trail.  From this view point you can see all the way back into the old town of Montezuma and all the high peaks that surround Arapahoe Basin\, taking world class views\, as you summit Little Lenawee peak.  At the summit you will turn around\, head back down.  You will head across and hit the Summer road\, stride back down. New this year you’ll cruise the high alpine brand new trail “Half Moon Vista” Hike for world-class downhill vibes. Once you see Black Mountain lodge again you will take a right onto world-class singletrack\, which is the Argentine North Fork trail\, taking cover in the beautiful shaded forest\, the Argentine singletrack twists & turns\, an adventure in itself\, taking you towards bottom of the mountain where you will finish the last mile on a brand new mountain bike singletrack with high walls like a bobsled all the way to the bottom for a finish in Mountain Goat Plaza\, where there will be live music and food for all. \nThe course is the most direct route to the high alpine\, it is steep\, but intuitive\, you will be pushing hard for the summit\, putting yourself to your capacity\, lungs\, grit\, and strength. Please note\, we will have the course well marked\, it is imperative\, for your safety\, you follow precise path of flagging.  On Little Lenawee summit area in particular\, please be prepared to slow down\, pay close attention to your footwork in the technical areas\, if you kick a rock loose\, immediately yell ‘rock’ to notify fellow competitors you have kicked a rock loose. If you are further down the course and you hear\, ‘rock!’\, please do not look up\, please turn your back and protect your head.  We can’t stress this section enough\, careful footwork\, look out for the safety of yourself and fellow competitors equally.
