Welch, Kinney take Snowman Stampede titles

On a perfect February morning, just over 800 runners and walkers converged at Hudson Gardens in Littleton for the 17th Snowman Stampede. With a half marathon, 10K and 5K, the event allowed for runners of all ages to take part.

In the half marathon, James Welch of Denver led 150 runners to the finish line in 1:17:57. Shannon Kinney set an event and course record in taking the women’s title. She finished in 1:24:31.

In the 10K, Kory Skattum of Longmont pushed to a time of 32:45 to take the victory over the other 250 runners in the race. Megan Umrysh of Parker was the first female in 38:59.

Leading 400 runners and walkers in the 5K was Billy Ulrich of Boulder, who crossed the finish line 10 seconds up on Samuel Lanternier and Jacob Link (both of Boulder). His winning time of 15:09 was a new event record. Becky Hendee of Longmont took the women’s title in 18:06.
