Cherry Creek Sneak canceled for 2021, citing Covid restrictions

The Cherry Creek Sneak, one of Denver’s biggest road races, has officially cancelled its 2021 event. The race is typically held in Denver in April. The event organizers say they canceled because of the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The Cherry Creek Sneak dates back to 1982. It also was canceled last year in the early days of the pandemic.

“The Cherry Creek Sneak is a Colorado family-owned event with a very small staff,” race organizer Pat Downing said in a news release. “To produce events every year, we rely on our families, friends, volunteers, and generous sponsors. Our event and our industry have been and continue to be crushed by COVID-19 restrictions. For 2021, we cannot host the event like we want to; we have too many guests to consider a socially distanced race, and the permitting and street closure costs alone would make the race financially unviable.”

The Bolder Boulder Memorial Day 10K, Colorado’s largest running event by far, was canceled two weeks ago. The Colfax Marathon and its associated races have been moved from their usual May time frame to Oct. 16-17.
