Thomasson, Thenell Win First Glacier Fest 5K

On gravel roads at historic St. Mary’s Glacier at nearly 10,300 feet starting above the town of Idaho Springs, CO, the new Glacier Fest 5K took runenrs to a highpoint of 10,880’ with a total elevation change of 1,355’. Ron Thomasson (47) of Longmont set the CR with a fast 22:50 finish time and Julie Thenell (55) of Boulder won the women’s division in 33:55. In addition to overall and age group awards there was a drawing for over $1,000 in free prizes followed by free Glacier Fest activities featuring live music, historic tours, gold panning, food and beer, vendors, and an antique car show. Proceeds benefited the Alice Historical Society and Saint Mary’s Glacier Property Owners Association.
