Three Olympians Among Field for USA Women’s 10 Mile Championship

Race Director Phil Stewart announced  that U.S. Olympians Janet Cherebon-Bawcom, Jen Rhines and Colleen De Reuck will be competing in the upcoming USA Women’s 10 Mile Championship, presented by America’s Credit Unions, which is being held in conjunction with the 2013 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 7. On the men’s side, last year’s winner, Allan Kiprono will return to defend his title, and will face 2012 runner-up Lani Kiplagat. The road to London will soon take a journey through Duluth for a pair of U.S. Olympians as Kara Goucher and Abdi Abdirahman officially have registered for the USA Half Marathon Championships to be held Saturday, June 16 in Duluth as part of Grandma’s Marathon weekend. The event will be a homecoming for Goucher (left, PhotoRun), 33, who grew up in Duluth and graduated from Duluth East High School in 1996. Now residing in Portland, Ore., Goucher competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in both the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters, placing ninth and tenth, respectively. DAEGU, South Korea – Tera Moody (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ran her second fastest ever marathon to finish 17th in 2:32:04 in the first final of the 13th IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Team USA also advanced seven athletes from the qualifying rounds during the morning session at Daegu Stadium. Nine Americans made their World Championships debut; however, none of the five who were competing in the qualifying rounds advanced into the finals. Moody, Maiyo Win Classic 10K in Colorado Springs

Tera Moody surged to victory on the super fast Classic 10K course in Colorado Springs on Saturday. Her winning time of 33:58 was just under 30 seconds faster that Collen De Reuck of Boulder, who at age 47 still continues to run at an incredibly fast pace. In the men’s race, Augustus Maiyo of Colorado Springs won with a time of 30:01. Josh Eberly of Gunnison placed second in 30:20, and Charles Hillig of Denver was third in 30:31. DeReuck, Macias Win Boulder Spring Half

At this weekend’s Boulder Half Marathon, 10M and 10k, Colleen DeReuck and Martha Tenorio, both former Olympians and current masters runners, battled it out. DeReuck took top honors in the end. Katie Blackett, a former Olympic trials qualifier, was third. Mario Macias won last year’s Spring Half and racked up yet another win taking top honors in the men’s half marathon, besting Justin Ricks by nearly 2 ½ minutes. Robert Thayer was third. Olympic Bronze medalist and American record holder Shalane Flanagan (Portland, Ore.) dominated the women’s field to win her fifth USA Cross Country title, while Brent Vaughn (Blackhawk, Colo.) surprised the men’s field to win his first USA title Saturday at the 2011 USA Cross Country Championships. Two-time Olympian Alan Culpepper and four-time Olympian Colleen De Reuck will join the sold-out field of 10,000 runners in the inaugural NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE on Sunday, August 27, it was announced today by New York Road Runners. Both marathoners represented the United States in Athens after winning their respective Olympic Marathon Trials in 2004. U.S. 10,000m record holder Deena Kastor has withdrawn from the U.S. team for the Celestial Seasonings Bolder Boulder 10-K due to an injury. The race is scheduled for Monday, May 30 in Boulder, Colo. “She has a stress reaction in her left foot,” said her long- time agent, Ray Flynn, of Flynn Sports Management. “An MRI confirmed the result to her doctor over the weekend.” Kastor, 32, had planned to join Colleen De Reuck and Jen Rhines on the team.
