EUGENE, Ore.–Day five of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials ended in disappointment for some Colorado competitors and with hope for others. Temperatures were already in the high 80′s Sunday morning as runners toed the line for the inaugural Stadium Stampede 10K at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Temps were even higher an hour later at the start of the 5K. Almost 1,000 participants came out to race, run or walk and benefit Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital. The event featured the new 10K distance, 5K run and walk, 1/2 mile family fun run, after race party and fitness expo. EUGENE, Ore.–Second chances in the Olympic Trials come with a steep price. After failing to qualify in the 10,000 meter run, it will cost both Alisha Williams and Brent Vaughn another 10,000 meters of racing for second chance to make the team. Monday, June 25 (day four of the trials), will be a big day for Colorado Runners competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore. City Park was hopping on Sunday morning as thousands of runners and race supporters came out to The Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado (EFCO) STRIDES 5K Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run. Possibly the best STRIDES event yet, the 5K race was seamlessly well-organized and the post-race celebration included live entertainment, food and drinks for the entire family, awards, prizes and even an “Ask the Doc” tent. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo debuts new medallion made out of elephant poop for winners of upcoming Run to the Shrine 5K/10K. It’s a run like no other, so the medallions should be unique, too. That’s why Cheyenne Mountain Zoo called on Lucky and Kimba, African elephants, to help make a special memento for the winners of the fourth annual Run to the Shrine fundraiser on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Race conditions at Saturday’s 13.1 Westminster half marathon and 5K couldn’t have been better. With temperatures at a brisk 45 degrees at race start, runners enjoyed the coolness of the morning while they ran along the Big Dry Creek Trail in Westminster. With thousands of runners donning their green and gold this weekend, it’s no surprise that the myriad of St. Patrick’s Day-themed races were packed with race participants. The third installment of BKB Limited’s RUNDENVER Race Series is this Sunday at Wash Park in Denver. The Superbowl 5k will kick off the biggest football day of the year with a snowy lap around the park.
