Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Announces Verizon Wireless As Official Wireless Sponsor

footer_sa.jpgSan Antonio, TX (October 16, 2008) — The Competitor Group is pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless has signed an agreement to become the official wireless partner of the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon. The agreement gives Verizon Wireless the exclusive rights to tie its brand to the largest marathon and ½ marathon in Texas history, with 30,000 runners and walkers expected to participate on Sunday, November 16, 2008.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to partner with such a highly regarded and blue chip brand as Verizon Wireless and are excited to have them as part of our team,” said Scott Dickey, Chief Operating Officer of the Competitor Group. “We look forward to helping Verizon Wireless reach our active audience and are pleased that we are able to launch the partnership on such a grand stage in San Antonio.”

The agreement provides significant exposure for Verizon Wireless through an onsite presence featuring the Verizon Wireless brand prominently displayed on the race course and at the Finish Line Fiesta. The company will also participate at the two-day Health & Fitness Expo being held at the Alamodome on November 14 & 15.

Additionally, Verizon Wireless will promote race registration at their store locations throughout the region by involving their network of DJ partners at radio stations throughout the state. Verizon Wireless customers are encouraged to take advantage of services like BiM Active from Bones in Motion to track their workout routines. BiM Active uses its GPS tracking technology to continuously monitor a runner’s speed, distance, calories burned, pace and route. While training for the event, customers can also listen to their favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll tunes on their phones through V CAST Music with Rhapsody.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon is part of a national series of eight musically themed marathons and half-marathons. The 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses will run past many of the city’s historic sites and parks, while featuring live bands and cheerleaders positioned at each mile.
