The final installment of Colorado Runner's Winter Distance Series culminated at Hudson Gardens on Saturday with the Snowman Stampede 5 Miler and 10 Miler.  Almost 1,000 participants crossed the finish line, leading to an event record since the event's inception in 2006.  Weather conditions were pristine with temperatures in the 20's and 30's and the sun shining bright.  Saturday's race boasted some course and event records, drawing former Olympians and International distance runners alike. Competitors of all ages once again waxed their snow shovels for the legendary Angel Fire Shovel Race Championship on February 11 – 12, 2012. The challenge was fairly simple. Competitors sat on the scoop of a standard aluminum snow shovel, handle pointed downhill, and then lift their hands and feet to allow gravity to take them for a ride. Each rider had two shots to clock the fastest time down the front of the Angel Fire ski mountain. A quartet of American marathon stars will open their spring racing season here at the NYC Half, the New York Road Runners announced today.
