I'm generally an ultrarunner, preferring low-key, smaller events in remote mountain areas. Encountering (or being) a small group of volunteers at a hike-in aid station, dressed up in Star Wars costumes, blasting the Mos Eisley Cantina theme on repeat from the portable boombox, and serving Vader Dark Chocolate Cookies - those are the experiences I heartily enjoy. Though I do have to say - this style of race does intrigue me. Generally I can't justify that high of a price for so short of a race without a heavy chunk going to charity, but with a free entry, I would want to experience at least one.
