Record Number of Finishers in Colorado Springs’ New Year’s Day Running Tradition

More than 800 runners braved frosty temperatures for a New Year’s Day tradition in Colorado Springs, CO. No matter what the weather – rain, snow, or 20 below – the Rescue Run 5K and 10K goes on. This year the event celebrated is 35th running under sunny skies with temperatures hovering in the teens. Since 1995, the event has been held in Palmer Park, one of seven regional parks located within Colorado Springs. The park offers an off-leash enclosed dog area, single track trails, picnic areas, softball fields, a soccer field, a sand volleyball court, as well as gorgeous views at the higher vantage points. With a come-from-behind victory, Stevie Kremer, bested the field of more than 1800 runners at the 20th Jungfrau Marathon in Interlaken, Switzerland on September 8, to win gold in a time of 3:22:42. For her victory Kremer earned 10,000 CHF, approximately $10,500. “The race was nothing short of spectacular,” said the 28-year-old Kremer, “From the organization to the support, to the course and the views, this was an amazing race.  I am thrilled to have been a part of it and so proud and excited for TEAM USA!” Kremer refers to Team USA’s gold medal team victory in the World [...]

Morgan Arritola earns women’s individual bronze medal in Ponte di Legno, Italy; Mamo, Mayr world champions; Eritrea men’s team champion At the 28th World Mountain Running Championships held on Sunday, September 2, 2012 in Ponte di Legno, Italy, the four-memberU.S. Women’s Mountain Running Team took the gold medal with a dominant score of 18 points to best the second-place Italian team by 11 points. Switzerland claimed the bronze medal with 58 points. U.S. Team Announced for the NACAC Mountain Running Championships

The 2012 NACAC Mountain Championships will take place at Cypress Mountain, just north of Vancouver, BC, Canada, on Saturday, July 21, 2012.  This is the ninth consecutive year that the NACAC Mountain Championship have been held, with the event rotating being the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. This is the third time for Canada to serve as host, having been the venue for the championships in 2007 & 2010 (Canmore, Alberta). Cypress Mountain Ski Area was one of the venues at the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympics. The proposed course is an all-uphill course that will be approximately 10k in length with approximately 1000 meters of climbing. [...]

Paint Mines Interpretive Park to Host Family-Oriented Trail Running Event

El Paso County, Colorado’s Paint Mines Interpretive Park, located in Calhan, is the venue for the Paint Mines 6k Trail Race/Fun Run/Walk presented by Walmart to be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012. Registration for the event is now open at www.imathlete.com. This is the sixth year for the event which had its inaugural running in 2006. The race was not held in 2010. Up until 2011, the race was an evening event. US Mountain Runners Experience Japan’s Trails

On Saturday, April 29 six Americans representing the All American Trail Running Association (AATRA) participated in the inaugural Japanese mountain running event, the “Challenger’s Race 2005.” The event offered course options of 10km, 50km, and 100km, all traversing the Okutama mountains located in Ome, approximately 40 miles outside of Tokyo proper. Colorado’s premier trail running series runs June through September and includes events from 5K to the half-marathon (13.1 mile) distance.
