Youth phenoms Tyler and Tabor Scholl were at it again last weekend at the LaSportiva Berry Picker Trail Race in Vail. 10-year-old Tyler handed some pretty good trail runners a sizable defeat, running 33:53 and winning by over a minute. Josh Smith was second in 35:00 and trail vet Bernie Boettcher of Silt was third in 36:13. Tyler’s 14-year-old sister Tabor was even more dominate, finishing 21st overall in 42:41 and leading the ladies race by nearly five minutes! Heidi Vosbeck of Glenwood was second in 47:09 and Morgan Hebbe of Fairfax, VA was third in 49:38.

Both Nathan Rice of Lafayette and Kim Dobson of Denver had no trouble with the high altitude and vertical gain in the LaSportiva Vail Half Marathon. Rice beat local runner Sylvan Ellefson by nearly 90 seconds in 1:49:27 and Dobson cruised to a four minute victory over Anne Nevin, crossing the finish line eighth overall in 1:59:38. The Vail Half Marathon is 14.1 miles with an average incline of 7 percent. The half marathon boasts over 4,000 feet of climbing on the roads of Vail Mountain with a high point of 11,653 feet. Former Manitou Springs resident Scott Gall won the Barr Trail Mountain Race on Saturday, July 16th. The 37-year-old took the lead at the 2-mile mark and held off Manitou Springs’ Daryn Parker (1:40:24), running 1:39:02. John Tribia of Boulder finished third in 1:41:48. The women’s race promissed to be exciting with course record holder Brandy Erholtz of Evergreen battling fellow mountain running team member Megan Kimmel of Silverton. Carbondale’s Ashley Arnold took fourth place overall in the hill Hogback hustle 5K in New Castle on July 9th. She beat her sister her sister, Glenwood’s Lauren Arnold, by 21 seconds and New Castle’s Kelley Cullen by 38 seconds, crossing the line in a very quick 18:19. Rifle’s Dustin Ross, who currently runs track and cross country at Augusta State College in Georgia, held off Silt’s Bernie Boettcher for the win. Ross ran 17:35 to Boettcher’s 18:00. Former USA Mountain Running Team member Rachel Cueller of Albuquerque blasted up Vail Mountain on July 3rd to win the LaSportiva Vail Hill Climb. Cueller’s time of 59:48 was nearly 90 seconds faster than here nearest competitor, fellow mountain running team member Megan Kimmel of Silverton. Jared Scott of Arizona beat Peter maksimow of Manitou Springs by over a minute, running 50:32.

Bernie Boettcher ran away from Josh Hejtmanek to win the Strawberry Shortcut 10K, while Hope Krause cruised to the female title. Boettcher’s winning time was 34:51 while Krause ran 38:55 and finished sixth overall. A total of 566 runners finished the 5K and 10K run around Glenwood Springs on June 19th. Dewayne Miner (16:27) and Madi Spence (20:59) won the 5K.

Bernie Boettcher (Silt, CO) and Amelia Ortiz (Eagle, CO) ran to victory at the Beaver Creek Summer Solstice 10K Trail Race on June 18. Boettcher’s winning time of 47:07 was only four seconds faster than second place John Klish of Eagle. Ortiz outpaced her mother, Anita, by nearly a minute, crossing the 52:26. Anita finished second in 53:10. Sergio Nevarez of Cabondale (31:42) and Linda Andros-Clay of Edwards (32:05) won the 5K.

The Eddie Bauer Mud Run is a race for people of all ages and running abilities. The course features a short lap format that take runner’s around the Vail Mountain Plaza. Each lap ends with a sprint through a mud pit. Kids tackle one lap while adults run the course three times.

Megan Kimmel of Silverton took the top female honors in last weekend’s Teva Spring Runoff 10K. Melody Fairchild of Boulder was second in 50:05 and Megan Lund-Lizotte of Basalt was third in 50:39. Max King of Bend, OR took the overall male title, running the wicked trail race in 41:30. Bolder Boulder winner Jeremy Freed of Broomfield took second in 41:40 and Matt Tebo of Boulder was third in 42:33.
Macias, Dobson Win Vail Pass Half Marathon

Mario Macias of Alamosa successfully defended his 2010 title at the Vail Pass Half Marathon last weekend, running 1:15:25 on the weather altered course. Max King came in from Bend, Oregon and was 2nd in 1:17:54. Matt Levassiur, also of Alamosa, was 3rd in 1:18:04. Kim Dobson took the overall female title, running 1:31:18. Megan Lund-Lizotte was second in 1:33:10 and Boulder’s Melody Fairchild was third in 1:34:11.
Utah Runners Sweep Canyonlands Half Marathon

Three runners from Utah took the top three spots at the Canyonlands Half Marathon, while Christi Webb from Farmington, NM took the female title. Bryant Jensen from Ogden (1:11:48), Paul Peterson from Smithfield (1:12:10) and Joshua Steffen from Salt Lake City (1:13:43) led nearly 3,400 runners across the finish line in this iconic race in Moab. Marty Wacker from Grand Junction finished as the first master’s runner, finishing sixth in 1:16:33. GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — There were several noteworthy happenings at the 12th annual running of the Kenny Cline Memorial Sequoia Glen 5K. The America’s Uphill begins at the base of Little Nell and climbs 3267 feet up the Aspen Mountain ski area finishing at the Sundeck Restaurant at an elevation of 11,212 feet. Attracting hundreds of racers each year, the race brings together snowshoers, Nordic skiers, telemark skiers, and Randonee skiers for this 2.5 mile trek.

More than 350 people made the track to Beaver Creek for the Jeremy Wright North American Snowshoe Championships, the final race in the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series. Josiah Middaugh took the championship 10K in a time of 51:36. He was followed by Bernie Boettcher in 56:34 andPeter Maskimow in 59:05. Rachel Viele took the female championship, running 1:02:11. C. Fruita’s annual Sweetheart Run, presented by the City of Fruita and Health West was held on February 12. The race offers a sweetheart (combined scores) and singles category for a 5k and 10k race. The Sweetheart 10k was won by Jeff Amans and partner, in a combined time of 47:24. Rudy Vasquez and partner won the 5k in a combined time of 20:46. In the 10k race, thirty-nine year old Marty Wacker won the men’s overall race in 34:34.
