First Race Of Series Break Record!
With 131 runners last night in the first race of the 2005 Nike ACG Summit Trail Series, things are looking rather bright. Last year, the seires record was reached at the final event when 94 runners toed the line. Word has definitly begun to spread about this great low-key trail series.

Most of the runners at this weeks race were series newbies. Only one of the four winners had run in a series event before. Former Colorado State University track teammates Dennis Flanagan, 23, and Dylan Olchin, 24, moved to Breckenridge in October. They both took off fast and didn't look back on the course's hard-packed Boreas Pass Road beginning. Olchin would win the long course (about 10K) by 3:30 over Frisco resident Steve Marshall. Flanagan held on for a 10 second victory of hard charging Nicholas Roder in the short course (maybe 5K) in 17:48 to 17:58. Colorado Runner Publisher Derek Griffiths saw his winning streak in the short course events (he won every one he entered last year) come to an end as he finished third in 18:29, after running the long course as a warm-up.

One the women's side, Philadelphia native who now lives in Vail, Lynda Andros, won the women's in 20:08. The only Series veteran to claim victory on Wednesday was Breckenridge physical therapist Kim Eytel. She ran to victory in in the long course in 45:46.

1. Breckenridge resident and former CSU runner Dylan Olchin wins the long course race (about 10K) in 35:44.

2. Frisco's Steve Marshall finished second in the long course in 39:13.

3. Silverthorne's Paul Brett, a Series verteran and long time winner of the long course, finsihed fourth after having to make two pit-stops due to stomach problems. His time was 42:12.

4. Kimberly Eytel of Breckenridge wins the long course in 45:46.

5. Jaime Falcon finishes a close second in the long course 46:02.

6. Jill Walker charges strong down the final hill, finishing third in the long course in 46:50.

7. The Nike ACG Summit Trail Series is a series of six trail races held on Wednesday nights in Breckenridge throughout the summer. These races offer runners a chance to get into "thin air" and run over beautiful mountain trails. With the post race awards at the Quandry Grill (including one free beer and half price appatizers), what more could any trial runner want?

8. Littleton's Jessica Griffiths runs strong to the finish in the short course.

9. Littleton's Michael Robbert finished fifith in the long course in 42:38.
