Maybe one of the best starting backdrops of any race in
Colorado, the Run The Rockies Half Marathon and Ten Mile Creek
10K get under way at the base of Copper Mountain, elevation
9,700' above sea level. This years race, the 31st annual, saw a
record number of entrants, with 529 people signing up for
either the half marathon or the 10K!
The lead pack at two miles is still closly bunched.
Mark Williams of new York, NY had no problems with the
elevation in Colorado's Rocky mountains as he cruised to a five
minute victory in the half marathon.
23-year-old Kim Dobson of Fort Collins also had an easy time in
the half marathon, winning by over threee minutes in 1:33:15.
This time put Kim across the finish line in sixth place overall.
17-year-old Michael Johnson of Littlton pulled away from the
pack early in the race, going on to win the 10K in 36:06.

Jennifer Valentine of Boulder finished second in the 10K in
40:26.

Title sponsor Salomon had the flags flying in the wind at the
finish area. Runners could bask in the high altitude sun while
drinking beer and eating chili. All age groups winners received
a free pair of shoes donated by Salomon.
