  1. The start of the 2004 Rim Rock Run sees sunny skis and temperatures in the 30's.

  1. Runners head up Rim Rock Drive in the Colorado National Monument.

  1. Silt's Bernie Boettcher defends his Rim Rock Run title in 2:18:47. At 18 miles into the race, Bernie was 1/2 mile behind Gunnison's Rich Tveden. In the last four miles, Bernie made up that distance and won by almost 2 minutes.

  1. Grand Junction's Leanne Whitesides before she becomes the first three time winner of the Rim Rock Run. Leanne's husband Bryan ran stride for stride with her, completing the race for the first time. After the race Leanne would find out that she beat the most competative women's field ever assembled at the Rim Rock Run.

  1. Glenwood Springs's Matt Huber finishes the 37K distance in 2:50:25.

  1. Gunnison's Jane Tunnadine is the 10th female in 2:50:45. In last years running, Jane ran 2:53:23, and that was good enough for 5th! This was the first year that 9 women had finished in under 2:50.

  1. Littleton ultrarunner Tania Pacev finihes her trek across the Colorado National Monument in 2:52:36, good for 12th. Last year, that time would have placed 5th.

  1. Denver's Judy Beckenbach and Colorado Springs's Gwen Martinez are happy to be finished with this 37K. After climbing and descend 2000', most finishers are happy that it is over. Judy and Gwen were last last two females to finish in under 3 hours, taking 15th and 16th in 2:57:05. The 2004 Rim Rock Run saw the most competative women's field ever. At the 2003 version, only 8 women broke the coveted 3 hour mark.

  1. Bernie Boettcher is all smiles at the awards ceremony. He picked up $200 ($100 each for first overall and first master), a free pair of shoes from Running Outfitters, and a handmade ceramic plate.
