1. Matt Carpenter sets both a master's ascent record and a master's marathon record in winning the 2006 Pikes Peak Marathon. Matt's ascent time of 2:08:27, beat the record of 2:18:06 set by Simon Guiterrez the day before in the Pikes Peak Ascent. Matt's winning time in the marathon was 3:33:07.

2. Galen Burrell of Boulder finished second in the marathon, running 3:45:41.

3. Emma Murray of Dickson, Australia, was the first female in the marathon, running 4:21:09.

4. Simon Gutierrez of Alamosa set a new masters course record of 2:18:06 in winning the Pikes Peak Ascent.

5. In one of the closest finishes in history, eight time Ascent winner Scott Elliot finished second in 2:18:14.

6. Lisa Goldsmith of Nederland led a contingent of masters runners (six of the top ten) across the finish line, winning the ascent in 2:46:07.

7. Finishing a close second was Cindy O'Neill in 2:46:45.
