Snow Falls at PPRR Tortoise and Hare 5K
Bob Mutu 4/10/2004 Colorado Springs, CO Pike Peak Road Runners
Temperatures for the Tortoise and Hare 5K were below freezing. A
wet snow intensified throughout the race with several inches of
snow fell from 7AM to 10AM. However, everyone really enjoyed
this great handicap race!! Runners got handicaps based on their
Age, Sex, Height and Weight. The race tries to eliminate those
variables and tries to emphasize conditioning. Due to the
extreme conditions runners were weighed in and their height
measured with all running gear (as in WARM clothes) and shoes
on. They were not allowed to remove clothes after weigh in...not
that anyone wanted to! The top five received great trophies.
JJ Huie had to hit the afterburners to pass his dad down the
stretch to garner second place honors for the second straight
year! Check out the photos of the quick weather protection that
Al Grimme and the guys set up to protect our assets.
