McGuire wins, Anderson second at GAC

Erin Bedell, Carmen Mims and Aislinn Ryan ran three abreast with
Nicole Blood in fourth just before the mile.Nicole Schappert was also in the pack of 9 runners. Erin Bedell
led the charge up the first hill, but high altitude trained
Coloradan,Whitney Anderson (Summit HS) got to the lead by the
mile hit in 5:11. The top ten were all through the mile by 5:15. Aislinn Ryan followed in second with Blood third. Anderson began
to pick up the pace, but Ryan covered the move. Ryan was finally able to get to the lead. Blood was eight meter
back with the pack another ten meters back. Ryan kept the pressure up making big move down the hill.
Anderson covered the move and Blood hung in 10m back. Ryan had four seconds on Anderson, 10:51 to 10:55. Ryan kept the
pressure extending her lead to 45m then 75m. Ryan won with a 16:56.31, with Anderson crossing the line second
in a PR 17:23. Ryan's time would have placed her second
in the college women's NIKE ROC on Friday and was 1:08 faster
than the best time last year on a slightly different course.
Fort Collins's Katie Follett was 15th in 18:23. Saratoga, NY dominated the girl's competition winning with an
incredible 26 points. Their top seven all were all in the top 28
team places. Bethelehem placed second 154 with a Smoky Hill who ran without
Katelyn Kaltenbach finished a solid third.
Jon McGuire of D'Evelyn high school took over the lead from
Michael Eaton hitting the mile in 4:36. By one and a half, he
had opened up a 14 second lead.McGuire hit the two mile in 9:37 and cruise to a easy win in
15:24.09. Cherokee boys put five in the top 35 to win with 96 points.
LaSalle was second with 130 just edging out RS McLaughlin CVI
with 134. D'Evelyn finished 13th as a team with 277 points. Greeley West's Cameron Carter finished 21st in 16:42. In the College division, Adams State finished a strong 4th place
behind Division powerhouses Michigan, NC State and William &
Mary. They were led by Mohamed Aden who ran 24:47 for the 8K
course.
The Adams State women finished 5th, behind Duke, UNC, Georgia,
and BYU. They were led by Stephanie Bylander, who finished a
strong 9th in 17:26 over the 5K course.
