Runners start out in windy conditions at Chatfiled State Park in the 5A Region 2 High School XC meet.

Dakota Ridge took the top three spots in the girls race to comfortably win the team title with 20 points.

Kaitie Vanatta, running in her second race of the season, took the individual title, running 18:51.

Dakota Ridge's Evan Appel leads Cherry Creek's Charles White and Regis's Bobby Nicolls in what was a preview of next week's state meet. Appel finished first in 15:59 with White in second (16:15) and Nicolls in third (16:27). Appel's win help his team edge out Cherry Creek and Regis in the team standings as well (48 to 49 to 57).
