The annual Tri the Creek Spring Triathlon, rated at the best event of its kind in Colorado, will be held on Saturday, June 21 at Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora. Hosted by The Denver Athletic Club, it is expected to draw up to 500 participants for the 8 a.m. start.

Laux ran nearly the entire 5-mile course with Payton Batliner before Laux broke away with less than a half-mile remaining to win the elite race in 24 minutes, 40 seconds, while Batliner finished second in 24:45.

Kenya's Sylvester Chebii, 26, won the ninth annual Country Music Marathon in a time of 2:14:2. In the women's race, Svetlana Ponomarenko, 38, from Russia outkicked defending champion Olena Shurkhno, 30, from the Ukraine, finishing in 2:30:33.
