The 44th running of the Horsetooth Half Marathon will take place this Sunday and will look much different than last year’s event, which saw wet, snowy, and cold conditions. This year’s event is expecting beautiful weather, with cooler morning temperatures and abundant sunshine throughout the day. Couple that with a picturesque course offering views of the Fort Collins skyline between iconic peaks of Horsetooth Mountain and Arthur’s Rock, not to mention a post-race party hosted by New Belgium in Old Town, and you have one incredible morning on tap!
The half marathon course has been coined as “challenging,” starting at 5,195′ and climbing up Monster Mountain to 5,688′ where $100 cash premiums will be awarded to the King and Queen of the Mountain for the first male and female to the timing mat at the high point of the course. The course then begins its descent before hitting two more smaller climbs at Dam Hill and Bingham Hill before finishing up at 4,958′ and the New Belgium Finish Line Party.
All race participants are welcome to enjoy the famed Horsetooth Half Marathon post-race party with free beer from New Belgium, hearty and healthy soup from Boulder Organic with wheat rolls from the Great Harvest Bread Company, fruit available courtesy of Trader Joe’s, cookies from Mary’s Mountain Cookies, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available from Ripple, Morning Fresh and Eldorado Spring Water. Local blues fusion band Musketeer Gripweed will be providing the entertainment while particiants and spectators alike peruse the post-race expo booths and enjoy samples from vendors.
The Horsetooth Half Marathon continually attracts some of Colorado’s top talent, and with a $4,000 total cash purse on the line this year, we’re sure to see some of the region’s top competitors on the course. Cash prizes will be offered to the top three male and female overall finishers, in addition to the top male and female master’s finishers; there will also be age division awards.
