The 10th Anniversary of the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon was a success with 18,000 registered runners over two days. Hais Welday set a new half marathon course record, finishing the race in 1 hour, 6 minutes and 44 seconds. He shattered the record set by Colorado Springs resident Patrick Rizzo in 2012. Patrick finished 2nd in this year’s half marathon.
The female half marathon winner is Nuta Olaru completing the 13.1 miles in 1 hour 22 minutes and 46 seconds followed by hometown favorite Kristin Louderback from Highlands Ranch finishing about a minute and a half behind.
In the full marathon, Ramon Paredes-Becerra originally from Mexico finished 2 hours, 36 minutes and 13 seconds followed by Andrew Simmons from Lakewood.
Female winner Nicole Chyr of Englewood, CO finished in 3 hours, 2 minutes and 4 seconds with Laura Eakin finishing just 49 seconds behind. Nicole remains the event record holder set back in 2012 with a time of 2 hours, 57 minutes and 18 seconds and is now a 4-time Colfax Marathon winner.
“Today’s race was fantastic! The weather was perfect and the Colfax Marathon directors and volunteers do such a great job to make this a very special Colorado event,” remarked Nicole Chyr 4-time Colfax Marathon winner. “The last six miles were a little grueling for me today, but I still always enjoy participating in this local race. Congratulations to everyone who raced today.”
The weather was beautiful for both days allowing for faster times, new course records, personal records, large spectator crowds, and a bustling festival in City Park with 190 Charity Partners, and cuisine from Jim N’ Nicks and Taziki’s.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better 10th Anniversary Marathon weekend,” said Andrea Dowdy, CEO of the Colfax Marathon. “As a nonprofit, our mission is to encourage fitness in our communities, bring runners together from all over, and showcase the best our city has to offer, and this weekend we were able to do just that.”
