Where Are They Now? Simon Cheprot

182

In 2009, a then-19-year-old Simon Cheprot won the BolderBoulder citizen’s race in a super-fast 29:17, a race record. It was a minute better than the previous mark, and he was over a minute faster than his closest challenger, Kennett Kiptoo.

He dominated every prize money road race in the Denver area that summer. He won the Mile High Mile in 4:19, won the Garden of the Gods 10-miler, won Longmont’s Sunrise Stampede

He went national in 2010 and competed in races like South Carolina’s Cooper Bridge Run, placing seventh, but also came back to Colorado and again won the Garden of the Gods 10-miler. He was only eighth in 30:28 at the 2010 BolderBoulder elite race.

Where’s he been since?

His IAAF profile shows some impressive results.  Cheprot has developed into a world-class runner.

27:41 for 10k in Prague in September 2014 (4th place, nine seconds behind 2nd place Geoffrey Mutai).

59:20 for half marathon in March 2013, in Rome (3rd, five seconds behind Wilson Kiprop).  He ran 1:00.50 at that same race in 2014, placing fourth.

He ran 1:01.36 at the 2014 World Half Marathon Championships, placing 22nd.

He was a part of the Dubai Marathon field in January 2015, but appears to have dropped after 15k.
