It was a chilly morning at Wash Park on Sunday, but that didn’t stop runners and participants from coming out to support the 3rd Annual Fit for Fire 5K.
The race is hosted by and directly supports The Friends of the Denver Fire Department, the Fit for Wellness Program and the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation. Firefighters personally come out to the event and help run, as well as participate, in the race.
First and second place finishers Nick Horton and Lonnie Cruz ran neck-in-neck the entire race. Horton eventually prevailed in the final straightaway and sprinted to a 17:07 finish. Cruz was seconds behind, finishing in 17:09. Third place belonged to Denver Firefighter Nic Cumings.
In the women’s race, Megan Miccio grabbed first place in 23:30. Coming in second was Jeanneine Gonzales in 23:42, and third place belonged to Megan Whelan in 24:24.
