First Annual Retro Run 5K a Blast From the Past

Sunday morning was a blast to the past as runners converged on Sloan’s Lake in Denver for the first ever Retro Run 5K.  The race, hosted by Fit5280, attracted over 2,000 participants donning their best 60, 70′s and 80′s wear for the event.  While the race was non-competitive and un-timed, its purpose, according to race organizers, was to encourage a healthy lifestyle while still having fun.

A warm morning greeted runners on the south side of Sloan’s Lake, but that didn’t deter participants from taking part in a pre-race warm-up and making their way around the park to the finish line where an abundant expo and post-race party were underway.  Runners danced their way around to each of the vendors as an 80′s retro band entertained the crowd.

While there were no awards or top finisher presentations, there was a rather comical costume contest for both men and women and their furry friends.

Look for more Retro Run 5K events in 2013, as race organizers are planning a 5-city tour with a kick-off event in Denver.
