Stage 3 of the GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run often times requires a bit of mental toughness (like they don’t have that already!) from the runners. It’s the start of the last stage for the RUN3 racers, the teams competing in the 6 day competition are hitting the “half-way” point, and all runners are about to take on what is the longest stretch of mileage in the entire race.
From Leadville to Nova Guides at Camp Hale, runners took on 24.2 miles and 2,800 feet of elevation gain. After lining up at the chilly start in downtown Leadville, runners took off with a police escort and headed out of town. A cool morning turned into a perfect day of racing, as runners made their way through picturesque Aspen forests, over Tennessee Pass, and finally finishing up in historic Camp Hale.
The final day of racing for the RUN3 competitors saw stage leaders Alicia Shay and Max King continue to dominate the trails. King and Shay won all three stages – an accumulative 58.4 miles and 8,600 feet of elevation gain - and took the overall wins in the Open Men and Open Women divisions.
