2012 GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run Stage 2 Results & Overall Standings

Regional News

Another beautiful Colorado morning greeted runners to the start of stage 2 of the 2012 GORE-TEX® TransRockies Run yesterday.  Runners toed the line for what would be one of the most difficult and rewarding ascents of the week: Hope Pass.  Stage 2 starts in Vicksburg, takes runners up Hope Pass and then descends into Twin Lakes, for an accumulative 13.1 miles and 3,250 feet of elevation gain.

While most stages offer differences in terrain, climbing and altitude, standings often shift due to the individual exploitation of running strengths and abilities.  This year, however, seems to be transpiring a little differently, as the majority of the Stage 1 winners from Tuesday held their ground and their position atop the podium. The only change in stage winners on Wednesday came in the Women’s 80+ category as Team Titanium runners Sue Lee and Missy Berkel took the stage win.

Check out the Stage 2 results and overall standings below, followed by RUN3 updates and results as well.

The RUN3 competition is simply being left in the dust by top Open Women runner Alicia Shay and top Open Men runner Max King.

Alicia Shay, an accredited distance runner and wife of the late Ryan Shay – who tragically died during the 2007 Olympic trials in NYC – is absolutely dominating the women’s RUN3 race.  Shay took a hiatus from competitive running after her husband’s death, but has slowly brought herself back to the racing world to run with Ryan in her thoughts.

Shay’s story is tearful and heart-wrenching, but the way she’s dominating the trails these past few days is just a testament to the strength and love she has in her heart for her late husband, let alone for running in general.  Not only does Shay have a 30+ minute lead on her competition, but her 2:06:21 win in stage 2 would have placed 3rd in the Men’s Open Division.  Run on Alicia!
