USA Triathlon confirmed that Lukas Verzbicas, one of its brightest young competitors, was involved in a crash on his bicycle Tuesday morning in Colorado Springs.
A tweet by Bob Babbitt, co-founder of Competitor Magazine said the 19-year-old Verzbicas, a touted prospect for the 2016 Summer Olympics, was in intensive care and scheduled for surgery Wednesday.
However, Lindsey Wyskowski, a spokesperson for the sport’s national governing body, said details weren’t available and nothing had been confirmed other than there had been an accident.
