Scott’s grandfather, Verne Scott, was one of the sport’s early stars and is a USA Triathlon hall of famer. His father, Dave Scott, is a six-time Kona Ironman champion.

The emerging 21-year-old from Boulder started in the fourth wave, but Scott was clearly the man to beat after an impressive effort in the wet suit (completed the half-mile swim in 9:22) and on the bike (was first overall after finishing the 17.2-mile ride in 37:37).

Scott, who wrapped up the 3.1-mile run in 17:15, was wearing championship genes and a winning smile when he crossed the finish line three minutes clear of his closest challenger on the clock.
