The third installment of the Chilly Cheeks Winter Duathlon Series is this Saturday at Cherry Creek Reservoir and in true Colorado fashion, may surprise us all with some beautiful conditions for the race. Weather reports predict temperatures in the 30’s and 40’s for the morning hours, and the crew from Racing Underground scoped out the course on Thursday and said that “the bike course was plowed and completely dry with the exception of a short stretch (about 100 feet long) in the turn-around loop at the far end of the course.” As for the run course, “you’ll have about 1.5 miles on a dry road” and “the 1.5 mile dirt section will be a mix of dry dirt, damp dirt, and some small packed snow sections.”
The format for Saturday’s race is a 10.8 mile bike ride followed by a 4 mile run. There’s also a run-only option that starts after the duathlon waves. Those taking part in at least two of the three races will be eligible for series awards. Check out current 2011-2012 series standings here.
