It was a sea of blue and red on Sunday at Wash Park in Denver as BKB Limited held its third race of the RUNDENVER series: the Superbowl 5k. Racers bundled up and donned their team colors while face-painters at the finish line helped by adding team spirits. Those toeing the line for a quick time were treated to a relatively clear course, with exception to a few icy and snowy patches. It may have been cold, but the snowy scenery, bright Colorado sunshine and nonexistent wind led to an exceptional race.
The men’s race belonged to Russell Stein who finished in 16:59. Second and third place finishers Doug Croft and Joseph Deloy finished in 18:31 and 19:24, respectively. In the women’s race, Superbowl 5k reigning women’s champ Heather Utrata returned to keep her title with a win and third place overall finishing time of 18:32, besting her 2011 time by an impressive 1:20. The Runner’s Roost athlete has 3 wins under her belt in the 2012 season thus far. Second place Jamie Arnold finished in 19:58 and third place Andrea Hill crossed the line in 20:43.
The race was a great start to the Superbowl festivities, with excitement and anticipation running high. BKB Limited’s fourth race in their RUNDENVER series is next Sunday at Wash Park – the Valentine’s Day 5k.
