The Nielson Challenge, a monthly 2 mile Pikes Peak Roadrunners Event, was held yesterday in Monument Valley Park, Colorado Springs.
The ‘winners’ of this monthly challenge are uniquely determined – those that best their handicap by the largest margin. Kristina Tabares ran the 2 mile race in 19:42, besting her handicap by 4:55. Kristina was the winner for the women and overall for the race, based on her improvement in performance.
Wyatt Bledsoe was the male with the biggest improvement, finishing the 2 mile event in 20:17; and running 2:01 faster than his handicap.
The first male and female across the finish line, however, were Pat McGuire (10:41) and Rochelle Persson (12:25).
The event also offers a 1-mile race. Both races are run on hard packed dirt trails; 144 runners finished Saturday’s race.
