Butler, Bates Win 27th Annual Resolution 5K

Over 1,000 participants “ran” in the new year on Saturday evening at Wash Park in Denver. With temperatures hovering in the low 30′s, runners bundled up and enjoyed a fast and flat course that led to some impressive finishing times. 20-year old Ian Butler took the win in 16:08, with second and third place finishers Omar Martinez and Ian Harkreader coming in at 17:00 and 17:10, respectively. The women’s race showcased a fight to the finish, with 17-year old Heather Bates taking the win in 18:31 and 17-year old Syd Scott coming in a second behind in 18:32. Third place belonged to 15-year old Darby Gilfillan who finished in 20:15. Racers enjoyed a post-race New Year’s Eve party with Wahoo’s tacos, awards and a raffle that boasted a grand prize trip to Aspen/Snowmass.
